1st Trimester Screening

Went TMC to do my end of first trimester screening tdy. Needed to do some blood tests plus ultrasound to measure the little one. What we tot was just a simple routine checkup turned out to be an agonising 5hr stay there.

As the ultrasound imaging needed to measure the little tot in different areas, it was impt for the baby to be at the correct position to facilitate the measuring. Everything was quite fine & we were amazed with the growth and movements exhibited today. We couldnt stop smiling & laughing at baby's every single movement. Either BB will be waving hands, stretching its body & legs, crouching, bouncing or even just turning to look at us. Nightmare came when it was time to measure the thickness of his neck spine to assess the most impt aspect which is the risk of down syndrome. BB decided to sit up in a crouching manner therefore blocking the view for measurement. We tried so hard to coax BB back to the lying position & face up. After numerous tries, I was asked to go for my blood tests first & return back for a 2nd try.

The blood test turned out to be another nightmare. After taking my blood, a wave of nausea hit me & I have to crouch down on the floor. Blur me didnt hold my puncture point properly and blood oozed out rapidly from it and the plaster patched over it couldnt contain the flow. The nurse quickly brought a seat for me & I endured not puking while they patch back my wound. When Dear is done with his blood taking, I ran to the toilet and puke like I nv did before. I was like the "Merlion statue" when puking. Amazed at the amt of liquid that was released!!! Anyway, felt so much better and rested for a while. Sad thing is my bladder needs to be full for the repeat ultrasound so went to gulp down tonnes of water.

BB is really stubborn and the subsequent ultrasound were not successful. Went thru rounds of walking ard the medical centre (so as to induce baby to move to the correct position), emptying bladder and then filling it up again. From 8.15am - 1.20pm, I kept going in and out of the ultrasound rm. Even the nurses could recognise me & they can't help laughing at my plight. Finally a senior radiographer was asked to handle my case & finally the measurement could be done with a little bit of cooperation from BB. Haha...

Tests results will be out next wk & pray everything will be fine! My notti little one must be strong & healthy k? Lol...

Finally, a pic of me in my maternity top, at the 11th wk approaching the end of my 1st trimester.

Its all the hormones... ...

For the past 9 wks, all possible infections have been linked to my hormonal changes. From the never ending cough/sore throat/flu to the fungal infection to UTI and then now the fungal infection again. Wonder why my immune system is so weak. Every single sickness I get will ultimately get the same diagnosis from the doc. "It's all becos of the hormonal changes during pregnancy." Must admit that I am quite fustrated cos of the tonnes of med I need to eat everyday. Worse still, one medication somehow will lead to the compromise of another system and then a new sickness will develop soon after one is cured. Finally gotta my urine culture test result today & was glad my UTI is now cleared but the antibiotics that I was on had led to fungal infection since my bacteria flora is disturbed. Groan.

Sigh. My mum was telling me that she dun even have time to vomit when she was pregnant with us as she has many wrk to do. As for me, the nausea feeling is forever there. Puke my guts out this morn again. Stomach empty also puke, stomach too full also puke. Getting 6 small meals a day is not easy when my tummy sometimes just wanna act up on me. Furthermore, a typical school day only allow like 2 meals? Many colleagues had been coming up to me to remind me to slow down my pace in sch. Telling YT recently that I'm worried with sch wrk as I kept taking sick leave. She told me that nothing is more impt than my body & baby nw so I should not worry too much. Boss has been trying to reduce my wrkload by passing my wrk over to others but still feel I should be able to handle quite well on my own. Oh well... with the amt of sick leave I am taking, not surprised that quite abit of my wrk is best left to others.

NEED to build up my immune system now. Practicum for the NIE trainees is starting soon & I am appointed CT to 2 trainees so better not miss sch anymore. I know the 2nd trimester will be a much better one so seriously counting down to it. Bout 2 more wks to go. I MUST HANG IN THERE!

My precious baby... Be strong & be healthy inside mummy. All I want is the best for you. :)

Tiny but Mighty

Went to scan today to check that baby is ok & not affected by my recent UTI. So glad to see that it has grown from 1.9cm to 2.5cm over 1 wk. Today, it was moving so vigourously that we could actually make out the tiny hands and legs. Too bad my bladder was too full so the machine can't zoom in on the image otherwise we can see even better. Dear & me are always very ecstatic to see its heart beating strongly on the screen.

Next checkup which is in about 3wks time will be a more thorough one as its the end of the 1st trimester. There will be a series of tests to undergo (Fetal Risk Assessment). Dear & I have also decided to undergo the OSCAR test which is to check for my risk of having a Down Syndrome child. Praying hard everything will go through well. Getting worried too cos there is a chicken pox case in my form class now & she will be coming back to class next wk. Doc told me to keep a distance away from her to play safe so guess I just have to be prudent den.

Hmm... Guess all the recent scares (infection, eating too much med etc) have stressed me up to an extent. Even had some nightmare about my pregnancy. Tsk Tsk. MUST keep my spirit high and of cos to "Be happy, Don't worry". :))))))))))))))))))

Sigh... Feeling down now. Really dun wanna eat anymore med cos worried may affect baby but guess I have no choice. Baby... Sorry Mummy health is just lousy. Will take good care of myself to make sure you will be safe & sound. Promise Mummy you will be strong too.

Shopping!

Dear brought me out to Suntec & Marina Sq to shop for maternity wear. Quite reluntant at first cos still think it's kinda early but guess I really need those elastic work pants cos the ones I have now are really getting kinda tight. *Dun wanna suffocate my precious one*

Found a maternity wear boutique @ Suntec which I kinda like all those bottoms they have! Spent more than $300 there to join their membership. What I really like most is those adjustable elastic waistband work pants I've gotta there. Can wear them for some time until my pelvic grew bigger bah... Hee... What was most funny was when we were looking at some strollers, the shop assistant came over & tell us to slowly decide as we have loads of time before baby is due by looking at my tummy. Guess I have the most flat tummy in the shop as most of the preggy women in the shop were like at least 5-6mths pregnant! That was why I always tot it's still early for me to step into maternity wear shops. Haha...

Supposed to start taking pics of my swelling tummy but the baggy top I wore out today kinda conceal the bulge so didnt take. Was thinking of taking when my 1st trimester coming to an end... Shall start to upload pics of my tummy swelling monthly too... :)

Dear burnt a pocket in his wallet today... bought me maternity clothings + bird nest for nourishment. Became Eu Yan Seng member too cos he spent >300 on bird nest. Wow. Having a baby can really be financially draining huh... But I can't wait to start splurging on baby wear & stuffs. That will come when baby's gender is determined. And of cos doing up the baby's nursery room. Another major project on hand. :)

1st Gynae Visit

The exciting day for us has finally arrived! We finally got to see baby!!! (see ultrasound below & spot baby in the circle!) It's bout 1.9cm now and we got to see the heart beating which was a flickering sight on the ultrasound screen.

The estimated date of delivery is also out based on this ultrasound - 18th August 2009! This is so cool becos it's the same date as my lil'bro birthday (baby's uncle)!!! Haha... Immediately called mum to tell her the coincidence and msg bro too... Guess bro's birthday may not be so impt after all if baby really pops out that day! Anyway, Doc was telling us we may get a National Day baby too since the actual delivery date is mostly earlier than the estimated date. That's quite cool too cos baby's birthday will always be a holiday for him! He can get to see fireworks too! Haha...

Doc told me to brace for the next 4 wks as the morning sickness will get worse with headaches and giddiness too. Sigh. Will need to hang in there man. Starting to use the doc's recommended stretch mark cream as she told me the tummy will be starting to expand. Just went to buy some L size tops to start off my baggy dress code too. Bad hubby was saying I will be wearing size XL soon... :(

Very happy now cos getting to see the little precious thingy inside me is such a different feeling than just looking at my body changing externally. Next appt in 3 wks time & can't wait to see how much baby has grown by then... :)))

Overnight Sickness...

Started my full-blown morning sickness at 12am this morning and felt real terrible till like 5+am? Didnt sleep at all & went to GP this morning for med & MC. First MC for 2009. Hai...

Doc took my urine sample and found everything ok (no blood, no glucose) except that there are leucocytes (white blood cells) in my urine. This simply indicate I have a urinary infection. Drags. Doc explained that its becos of the expansion of my uterus which exert pressure on the bladder and some muscles loosening around the vaginal area that made preggy women prone to bacterial infection. Cant take antibiotics becos may affect baby so I have to drink loads of water plus some salt thingy to clear the infection.

Doc told me my onset of morning sickness is actually a good sign! Simply means my body hormones are working very well and matches the timing of baby growth. He told me I am currently into my 8th wk pregnancy (as they count from my last period on 5th Nov).

Can't wait for the 1st gynae appt this thu. REally hope to be able to see my little one from the ultrasound... Very curious to see how much has my little precious tot grew over the wks... :)

Creating a baby blog

Finally created a blog to record down the events of my very 1st pregnancy.

Haha... For the 1st entry, I finally experienced my 1st morning sickness. Thou this can happened anytime of the day despite being termed as "morning", I really had it in the early morning at 5am! On a Sunday which I am supposed to sleep in late!!! After vomitting some choc milk I had before sleeping, crawled back to bed & woke Dear up. He's in deep sleep that he didnt hear me vomitting at all. *Sigh* Anyway, he applied some vicks vapour rub on my chest to ease me back into sleep.

Just before I fell asleep, I told him what I feel like having for breakfast! Haha... Another of my mock cravings.
